I read a book on 'T.Nagar Andrum Indrum' authored by Nalli Kuppusamy.
Some interesting points I would like to share:
1) T.Nagar was planned in 1923-25.
2) T.Nagar was a big lake in 1916. Names like Lakeview road in Mambalam, lake area in Nungambakkam at present prove this.
3) Only one person by name Subramaniyam Iyer owned hundred acres of land in T.Nagar in 1920s.
4) Mambalam is older than T.Nagar which was called as New Mambalam initially.
5) One ground of land was rupees five hundred in 1920s.
6) One acre of land was rupees two thousand in 1923.
7) In 1933 , Pondichery Chokkalinga Mudhaliar built ten shops and named it as Pondy Bazar to glorify his native place Pondichery.
8) Renganathan street was an Agraharam , a residential area in 1948.
9) During second world war , Madras High Court was shifted temporarily to Holy Angels School in T.Nagar.
10) In 1930 , fourteen grounds of land for T.Nagar Social club was purchased for rupees two thousand nine hundred from Government.
11) In 1930s , after 10 pm foxes use to knock the doors of houses in T.Nagar.
12) There was a big comman well in T.Nagar on which Kannadasan statue stands now.
13) Staying in hotels was considered as below dignity in 1930s.
14) In 1930s, there was no radio . Hence , people use to assemble at Panagal park to listen 7.15 pm news. There was no movement of people after 8 pm.
CHANGE IS THE ONLY UNCHANGEABLE THING IN THE WORLD .
